The main issue in the design of this one-family house was successfully addressing and solving the problem of privacy in a domestic space that is projected towards the surrounding garden. The rooms’ functions, distributed by a central corridor, define the internal organisation of the house, with the bedrooms and living-room (space for daily life) to the east, and the bathrooms, kitchen, storeroom and laundry room (service space) to the west; there are two porticoes to the north and south: the first one is a car shelter, the second one an outward extension of the living area. The windows are placed into recesses in the east and west facades. They act as “telescopes” opening to the outside and offering particular views of the house garden. From the outside the house appears as a compact volume defined by the shadows created by light in the recesses and the porticoes carved into the building. Light creates a dialogue and interacts with the stereometry of the house creating a “pictorial” game of chiaroscuros and reflections that change over the seasons.
